From the first ARPANET message to today’s digital solutions
The Internet has changed the way we communicate, work and do business. The real challenge, though, is learning to make the most of its potential. On 29 October 1969, at the University of California, Los Angeles, a group of researchers tried to connect to a computer at the Stanford Research Institute over ARPANET, the network considered one of the main forerunners of the Internet.
The command to send was “LOGIN”. The “L” reached its destination. Then the “O”. At the third letter the system crashed. The first message ever sent between the two computers was therefore simply “LO”. Shortly afterwards the connection was restored and the command was completed.
Since that first connection, the Internet has become part of everyday life for people and companies. It has made communication more immediate, eased access to information and services and created new ways to collaborate, sell, buy and organise work. Precisely because the Internet is now everywhere, the question is no longer just whether a company is online. The question is: how much is it really making of this opportunity?
Being online with DigiBite
Having a website, using a few software tools or opening new digital channels is a starting point. To create value, however, technology has to meet real needs, fit into business processes and make work easier for the people who use it.
This is where DigiBite comes in. We support companies and organisations on their digital transformation journey, combining technology, strategy and customisation to build tools that match the real needs of the business.
There is no point digitalising a process just because “it can be done”. You need to understand why to do it, how to integrate it with what already exists and what benefit it should bring to the people who use it every day.
For DigiBite, making the most of digital means working on several fronts. An ecosystem of integrated services addresses different needs, from welcoming visitors to managing events, suppliers and company access. Custom web and eCommerce solutions build a digital presence consistent with the company’s goals, without reducing the project to a simple online shop window. Finally, dedicated applications bring digital straight into operational processes, turning specific needs into tools that people use every day at work.
From “LO” to today’s opportunities
In 1969, two letters were enough to start something that now connects people, services and organisations all over the world, and that keeps changing the way we work.
Technology, however, remains a tool. What makes the difference is how we choose to use it.
